2.8.19. open_basedir

Parameter open_basedir restricts the access level for PHP scripts on the site.

In situations where site scripts try to access files that they have restricted access to using open_basedir, the site can be observed error "open_basedir restriction in effect».

To change the value of a parameter, do the following:

  1. Openup PHP settings.
  2. Set the switch opposite the required access level:
    • /home/example/example.com/www - access is limited root directory site.
    • /home/example/example.com - access is limited to the parent directory root directory site.
    • /home/example - access is limited to the root directory of the hosting account.
    • none - access is not limited.
  3. Save your changes.
  4. Wait approximately 10-15 minutes for the changes to take effect.

It should be borne in mind that using open_basedir cannot provide complete isolation of sites from each other within the same hosting account. This is due to the fact that the parameter restricts access to files only by means of PHP, however, in the case of accessing files outside the specified access by workarounds, for example, by calling commands through shell_exec1), access will not be restricted.

Potentially dangerous internal PHP functions that are not used by site scripts can disconnect separately.
