2.6.4.1. Setting up FTP and SFTP connection in PhpStorm

Before connecting

Make sure the following requirements are met:

  • The IP from which the connection will be made has been added to the list of allowed in FTP security settings.
  • At least 15-30 minutes have passed since the IP was added to the allowed list.

To connect to hosting by FTP, configure PhpStorm like this:

  • «Name"- specify an arbitrary name for the created configuration for connecting to a remote server.
  • «Type"- select"FTP».
  • «Host"- specify the host from FTP connection data.
  • «Port"- make sure the default port is specified 21.
  • «User name"- specify the login from FTP connection data.
  • «Password"- specify FTP user password.
  • «Save password"- check the box to remember the password and not enter it every time you connect.
  • «Root path"- specify the path to the required directory on the server regarding the access directory of FTP connection data... You can also select it by clicking on the folder icon.
  • «Web server URL"- specify URL site or its service address (the field can be left empty if at the bottom of the settings window check the box opposite “Don't check HTTP connection to server»).
  • Click "Advanced"And set additional settings:
    • «Passive mode» — necessarily check the box to connect in passive mode.
    • «Show and process hidden files"- check the box to see all files in the directory, including hidden ones.
    • «Encoding for client-server communication"- specify utf-8.

You can test the connection using the "Test Connection».

Before connecting

To connect to hosting using SFTP, configure PhpStorm as follows:

  • «Name"- specify an arbitrary name for the created configuration for connecting to a remote server.
  • «Type"- select"SFTP».
  • «Host"- specify the host from SSH connection data.
  • «Port"- make sure the default port is specified 22.
  • «User name"- specify the login from SSH connection data.
  • «Authentication"- select"Password».
  • «Password"- specify SSH password.
  • «Save password"- check the box to remember the password and not enter it every time you connect.
  • «Root path"- specify the path to the required directory on the server relative to the root of the filesystem (the full path to the root directory of the site can be found by instructions). You can also select it by clicking on the folder icon.
  • «Web server URL"- specify URL site or its service address (the field can be left empty if at the bottom of the settings window check the box opposite “Don't check HTTP connection to server»).
  • Click "Advanced"And set additional settings:
    • «Encoding for client-server communication"- specify utf-8.

You can test the connection using the "Test Connection».
