2.5.6. Creating, viewing and unpacking an archive

Important points:

  • The hosting account must have enough free disk space to place the archive file. It is recommended to have a free space that is approximately equal to or greater than the amount of archived data. If there is not enough space, the archive will not be created.
  • Archives are created in the format zip.
  • To get an archive with the contents root directory site or subdomain it is more convenient to use a backup: tocreate backup and download the resulting archive on your PC. This method does not require free space on your hosting account.

To create an archive with filemanager do the following:

  1. Select the files and directories you want to archive, right-click on them and select “Create archive»:
  2. Specify the name of the archive to be created and confirm the operation:

To view the contents of an archive using filemanager go to the directory with the archive and double-click on it - a window will open in which you can see which files and directories the archive contains:

Important points:

  • The hosting account must have enough free disk space (volume and inodes) for placing the contents of the archive.
  • The integrity of the archive must not be compromised. The damaged archive may not be unpacked.
  • Due to differences in the versions of the used archiver / unpacker, archives in the format rar or 7z... In such a situation, repack the archive on your PC in the format zip.

To unpack the archive using filemanager do the following:

  1. Change to the directory with the archive you want to unpack.
  2. Select the archive, right-click on it and select “Unpack archive»:
  3. Specify the path to the directory where you want to unpack the archive, or clear the field for unpacking into the current directory, confirm the operation:Examples of paths:
    • Empty path - unpacking into the current directory.
    • archive - unpacking into a subdirectory of the current directory.
    • / - unpacking to the root of the hosting account, regardless of the current location.
    • /example.com/www - unpacking to the site directory regardless of the current location.
