2.13.8.5. Changing admin password in PrestaShop

To change your PrestaShop admin password:

  1. In the site config file take a look the name of the database to which it is connected.
  2. Discover database in phpMyAdmin.
  3. Execute the following SQL query, substituting your data into it:
    UPDATE ps_employee SET passwd = MD5('COOKIE_KEYnew_password') WHERE email = 'admin@example.com';

    If the names of the tables in the database do not start with the standard ps_, and with a different prefix, make the appropriate change to the SQL query.

    • Instead COOKIE_KEY:
      • If using PrestaShop 1.7 - specify the parameter value cookie_key of config file app/config/parameters.php.
      • If you are using PrestaShop 1.5-1.6 - specify the parameter value _COOKIE_KEY_ of config file config/settings.inc.php.
    • Instead new_password enter a new administrator password.
    • Instead admin@example.com specify the mail of the administrator account for which you are changing the password.
  4. Check the entrance to Admin panel.
