Website development on CMS WordPress

Introduction

WordPress is one of the simplest CMS and the most popular content management systems in the world.

In this article, we have collected all the possible steps to create a website. Check out our video series as we walk you through the basic tools you can use to create your own WordPress CMS website.

The video shows in detail how to add a web resource in the “Hosting Ukraine” control panel and install the CMS WordPress.

How using the Elementor plugin and add-ons for it, you can create pages in a visual editor. In addition to pages, we will touch on the topic of contact forms and show the process of working with the Contact Form 7 plugin.

For example, we used the following resources:

  • CMS WordPress: https://ru.wordpress.org/
  • Elementor Plugin: https://elementor.com/ Themes for Elementor: https://elementor.com/help/best-elementor-themes/
  • OceanWP theme: https://oceanwp.org/
  • Documentation: https://www.ukraine.com.ua/wiki/

CMS preparation

Building a website using this tutorial does not require deep technical skills. WordPress installation will be done automatically, all basic settings will be made through the Hosting Ukraine control panel interface and through the WordPress admin panel. Site pages will be created in the visual editor Elementor using ready-made templates of the Elementor itself, as well as additional library plugins.

Text versions of manuals:

Introducing Elementor

This video will tell you how to work with the Elementor palgin. Go to the pages section in the admin area, delete the existing pages, create a new one and click on the “Edit in Elementor” button in the top menu. You will be redirected to the designer page, where the Elementor panel will be located on the left, and a preview of the page on the right.

Template Libraries for Elementor

You can fill the space yourself by adding sections and dragging widgets into them. In this case, you will have complete control over the content, but it will take a lot of time and effort to give it all the proper look. For those who are faced with difficulties, I recommend using the function of importing templates for entire pages or individual sections. Elementor has a small library of templates. The blocks available for free in the element library are pretty primitive. Fortunately, third-party plugins are available in addition to them, which have a much wider range of blocks and pages. We will introduce you to some of them.

You will also need the following plugins:

Elements Kit Lite Plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/elementskit-lite/

Envato Elements Plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/envato-elements/

Starter Templates Plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/astra-sites/

Building a home page in Elementor

In this video, we will be using - Starter Templates to create a home page that will have four blocks. The plugin is being developed by the same team behind the Astra theme. Of course, the templates from the library are suitable for use with other themes as well. In our case, the Ocean WP theme is used.

You will also need:

Starter Templates Plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/astra-sites/

Color matching service https://coolors.co/

Customizing the OceanWP Skin

The paid version of the Elementor plugin has a theme builder that allows you to customize the header, footer and individual pages of the site, such as the blog page, search results, and the like. In this case, the “Hello” theme provided by the element's developers will suffice. It contains only basic settings, so when using it, there are no conflicts with the settings of the Elementor itself. Unfortunately, this functionality is not available on the free version of the plugin. You can solve this problem by installing and configuring the theme. In past videos we have installed the OceanWP theme, which has the widest range of customization options in its free version.

Setting up a contact form in Contact Form 7

Among all the plugins of contact forms, Contact Form 7 stands out for its simplicity and accessibility. It is free, has all the necessary functionality and is suitable for solving most of the tasks that are set for feedback forms.

You will also need:

Contact Form 7 Plugin: https://ru.wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7/

Contact Form 7 Documentation: https://contactform7.com/docs/

Flamingo plugin: https://ru.wordpress.org/plugins/flamingo/
